About this event
What this is
Information Machiya is the central hub for the KYOTOGRAPHIE International Photography Festival, housed in Hachikuan, a traditional Kyoto machiya (townhouse). The venue hosts two exhibitions: Fatma Hassuna's "The eye of Gaza" and "Photo Book! Photo-Book! Photobook!", a collaborative exhibition with A4 Laboratory curated by Sean O'Toole. Beyond exhibitions, it functions as a comprehensive visitor center offering festival tickets, merchandise, tourist information, and cultural experiences including tea ceremonies. The space blends contemporary photography with traditional Kyoto architecture and hospitality.
Who should go
Photography enthusiasts and festival-goers attending KYOTOGRAPHIE will find this an essential stop for orientation and ticketing. Visitors interested in experiencing traditional Japanese culture alongside contemporary art will appreciate the tea ceremony offerings and historical machiya setting. The bookshop and lounge make it ideal for those wanting to spend time exploring photography publications in a relaxed atmosphere. Passport ticket holders can take advantage of bicycle rentals here to navigate between festival venues across Kyoto.
