Sayama Irumakawa Tanabata Festival — event in Saitama

Sayama Irumakawa Tanabata FestivalSummer Tanabata Festival in Saitama 2026

One of the Kanto region's three major Tanabata festivals, the Sayama Irumakawa Tanabata Festival celebrates the traditional summer festival with roots in the Edo period. The festival originated from wishes for abundant harvests and good health, with families decorating bamboo branches with colorful paper strips and decorative papers. The area around Sayama Station's west exit and the Tanabata shopping street fills with elaborate decorations and food stalls, drawing visitors from across the region. The festival culminates with a spectacular fireworks display on the first evening at the Irumakawa riverbed, featuring approximately 2,000 fireworks including large shells and starmine effects.
