One of Japan's three most prestigious festival (san matsuri), held in the old merchant town of Takayama in the Japanese Alps. Over 11,000 visitors gather for ornate festival floats (yatai) escorted by geisha in traditional dress. The festival celebrates the shrine's kami and spring renewal with floats decorated with intricate woodcarvings dating back centuries. Four days of processions, ceremonial music, and traditional Noh theatre performances.
