What this is
Three very different Kobe institutions — a library, an ancient burial mound museum, and a bridge engineering museum — are linked by a self-guided quiz trail for one day in July. Pick up quiz sheets at any of the three Tarumi venues, answer questions as you explore each site, and collect prizes for completing the circuit. It's a low-key, family-oriented scavenger hunt that doubles as a tour of Tarumi's surprisingly varied cultural spots.
Who should go
Families with school-age children will get the most out of this. Curious adults who enjoy self-paced exploration of local history and engineering would also find it worthwhile, especially if they haven't visited Goshikizuka Kofun or the Bridge Science Museum before.
Good to know
Quiz sheets are available at each of the three venues, so you can start wherever is most convenient and work through them in any order — no registration required. The Bridge Science Museum charges admission (¥500 for adults, ¥250 for children, ¥350 for over-65s), so bring cash as smaller local museums in Japan often do not accept cards. Goshikizuka Kofun is one of the best-preserved keyhole-shaped burial mounds in the Kinki region and worth taking time over even outside the rally. Allow at least half a day to visit all three sites comfortably, as they are spread across the Tarumi district rather than clustered together.
