About Kochi
Kochi is Shikoku's wildest prefecture — a place of dramatic Pacific coastlines, dense cedar forests, and a stubbornly independent spirit. The Yosakoi Festival each August fills the city with thousands of dancers in elaborate costumes performing to a fusion of traditional and electronic music. Kochi is also the birthplace of Sakamoto Ryoma, the samurai revolutionary who helped end the Edo period, and his presence is felt throughout the city.
